Ardbeg 'Galileo' - Islay

The Experience

Alter Ego...

The Oddbins Take

They Say

In 2011 Ardbeg rocketed some precious vials of new make spirit out of Kazakhstan to the International Space Station, where they are now circling the earth ageing at zero gravity. To celebrate this Ardbeg have "launched" the Galileo, named after the "father of modern observational astronomy". The launch sequence starts with aromas of intense smoky fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and hazelnut. It then blasts off with tangy citrus, toffee, bananas, currants, cappuccino, marshmallow, tar, salt and smoke flavours. Aged in a combination of Marsala and Bourbon casks, unchillfiltered and bottled at 49% ABV.

We Say

There were a plethora of intelligent, space-based alter egos we could've plumped for; Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, Johannes Kepler, Nicolaus Copernicus, Sir Patrick Moore or even Brian May. But instead we went for… Alter Ego: Borat; a star with an unbelievable story, launched from Kazakhstan, mad as a loon and it's very nice. Ardbeg are limiting sales to two bottles per person (but we're not) and almost everybody else has already sold out. So get in there quick…
