The Oddbins Take

They Say

Summer 2014 saw the second release of the 1999 Vintage. A lovely copper colour with flecks of sparkling bronze, the 1999 has aromas of honey and green apples, as well as notes of rich, fruity Christmas cake with a hint of spice, citrus fruits and vanilla from its time in American oak, ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak and ex-sherry butts. On the palate it is full bodied, sweet and spicy in character, with hints of honey, vanilla and leather. The finish is warm, smooth and long-lasting.

We Say

Rich and imbued with a warm, soft notes like a well-worn saddle that’s stored in a barn full of hay. Alter Ego: Frankie Dettori; an accomplished performer, this is one that’s worth racing to the finish line for. With confident delivery, and aromas of the saddlery and dark looks that reveal a Mediterranean influence. Still relatively youthful but a doubtless champion.

Situated on the idyllic coast of the Dornoch Firth, Balblair have been making whisky since 1790. Instead of ageing their whiskies for a set amount of time, Distillery Manager John MacDonald selects whiskies that have reached their exact point of 'optimum maturation'.
