The Oddbins Take

*Adopts a lascivious, Peter O’Toole-esque drool* ‘Hello!’ yes, this is the wine that’ll make you go weak at the knees and forget how to speak. This is the wine of your dreams. Only it isn’t a dream, you can buy it, right here! It has heavenly echoes of violets and dried rose hips, even the far-off scent of eucalyptus, Moroccan spices, coffee and dark chocolate. Rich and balanced, it also boasts mineral notes, with a liquorice finish. ‘Ding dong…’

The Pecchenino estate was born in the 18th century. It started out with only eight hectares but today the estate stands at 25 hectares. Dolcetto makes up 65% of total production, but they also grow Barbera, Nebbiolo, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Orlando Pecchenino and Consulting Oenologist Beppe Caviola use a guyot vine training system and all the work is done by hand. They use organic methods of viniculture, involving minimal spraying and strictly no insecticides. Green harvesting brings final yields down to about 55–60 q/ha.

This Barolo is a rich ruby colour, with surrounding hues orange. It has echoes of violets and dried rose hips, even the scent of eucalyptus, spices, coffee and dark chocolate. Very rich and balanced, it also boasts mineral notes, with a liquorice finish. Full-bodied, with soft and velvety tannins, this is a very persistent wine.
