The Oddbins Take

Shiraz is the sixth most populous city in Iran. Team Oddbins are a little unsure how the lovely people at Berton Vineyards in Australia managed to squish it into wine bottles and why the city’s disappearance has gone unnoticed in the world’s press. Let’s just pretend it never happened. How about we just tell you it was made from the Shiraz grape variety instead, and that this is not quite the very predictable drop you'd expect. It has real complexity at the price with very delicious notes of black cherries, plums, coffee, vanilla, caramel, toast and some unusual Persian spices.

Bob and Cherie Berton set up the Berton Vineyard in the High Eden subregion of Barossa in 1996. Due to a lack of water for a couple of years it took a while for the vines to really flourish, but now these hardy little vines are producing some incredible grapes. This wine was one of the first wines that Berton produced and is therefore one they, and we, are very proud of. A deep dark cherry colour with vibrant hues, it has aromas of black cherries and raspberries, while the palate displays ripe plums, cherries and sweet vanilla. Rich with rounded tannins, this is great with spicy lamb dishes, beef stews or mushroom risotto.
