The Oddbins Take

In the mid 16th century, the Musigny region enjoyed great prosperity. Wealth filtered down to the humblest of workers, with the result everyone could eat better. And eat they did. Come the grape harvest, disaster! Grapes were still crushed by foot. But the rise in body weight meant skins were bruised, pips were burst, and the juice was ruined.

The entire vintage was in jeopardy until one quick-thinking winemaker demanded a different type of 'treading', with the feet hardly lifted, a gentle shambling if you like, across the grapes. The resulting wine was beautifully soft, giving rise to what today remains one of the more juicy, 'feminine' Burgundy styles: Chambolle, or 'Shamble' Musigny, still pressed today by shambling feet.

Bellenum is the brainchild of Nicolas Potel, whio was brought up at Domaine de la Pousse D'or, where his father educated him in great Burgundy and how wines with the right balance of fruit, alcholo, acidity and structure can age. Bellenum gathers great parcels of Domaine wines, selecting only the best ones to offer from cellars across Burgundy.

A wine suprisingly youthful in colour, due to the winemaking technique aswell as the cold cellars where the wine is aged. Fresh black fruit is prominent on the nose and the palate, opening up to reveal fresh blackcurrant and cherry fruit.
