The Oddbins Take

A gift from Charles VII to Jean Poton de Xaintrailles. Who was also chief lieutenant to the batty Joan of Arc but this ownership was short lived when it was taken from him in a prize ending the hundred year old war. So when you look into this glass full of remembrance of all the battles taken place on the vineyard, think of poor old Jean Poton and his short lived glory. This wine is a complex and dark character with plenty to offer other than history. Tasting notes of Black fruit, cassis and long spice finish.

The Lord's domain of Carignan first appeared on registers in the 11th Century and was built on the site of a Roman villa. It was a gift to Jean Poton de Xaintrailles from Charles VII, King of France. Poton de Xaintrailles, a companion in arms of Joan of Arc, built the present castle in 1452 and one year later crushed the English army led by Constable Talbot at the battle of Castillon, thus putting an end to the Hundred Year War, enabling the Aquitaine region to return to French rule.

This Chateau has passed through a number of successive and illustrious families. It is now currently owned by Andy Lench in 2007

The estate lies over 150 hectares, 65 of which are planted with vines. The vines lie on south facing clayey-limestone hillsides covered with stony gravel. This variety is in its element on the clayey limestone hillsides and offers supple, well-rounded and highly fruity wines. A waste water treatment unit has been in use since the 2000 harvest. The entire production is estate bottled.

Intense red dark colour and brilliance The nose is complex with a wide range of aromas .Long and fleshy mouth with a tannic structure, concentrated flavour so back fruit, cassis, blackberries , cocoa and spices for a mouth.
