The Oddbins Take

At Oddbins Towers we call this The Pink Panther. It bears no resemblance to the sneaky cartoon character in the title sequence of the film and its winemaker is certainly not a bumbling fool like Inspector Jacques Clouseau.

No, we call this The Pink Panther because it’s a diamond, a precious and brilliant diamond with a delicate pink hue. In fact this rosé wine is so good and has proven so popular we’ve had to employ Cato to protect it in our warehouse. He’s just so unpredictable; half our staff are off with injuries.

Clos Bellane is a unique property situated high on the hills outside Valreas in the North of the Southern Rhône. Combining the altitude of the Northern Rhône with the grape varieties of the Southern Rhône gives beautiful intensely scented wines.

Stephane Vedeau purchased Clos Bellane in 2007 and his first releases appeared in 2009. Stephane is one of France's most respected winemakers. Initially famous for his La Ferme du Mont label in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, he also makes wine in the Northern Rhône at his mother’s vineyard. He believes in expressing the terroir as precisely as possible, so his wines have pure fruit, freshness and balance.

This delicate rosé is light in colour as if a few drops of pink ink have been dropped into a white. It is aromatic and racy but has ripe red fruit flavours and textured mineral notes. Imagine a Rhône take on a Provence rosé.

Try this with salads, tabbouleh, antipasti, gazpacho or fresh strawberries and peaches.
