The Oddbins Take

Drappier is not a Parisian curtain maker, it’s one of the finest Grower Champagnes on the market and was a firm favourite of Charles de Gaulle, the French airport dude. Many of the large Champagne houses use grapes sourced from loads of different vineyards. But Grower Champagnes are artisanal wines produced by an estate who own the vineyards that the grapes come from. Drappier, founded in Urville in 1808, control every step of the wine making process and use very little sulphur. Their quality shines so brightly you’d need some pretty thick curtains to block it out.

Drappier is a family house dedicated to Pinot Noir and they were the former supplier of Charles de Gaulle. Based in a building that was once occupied by Cistercian monks from Clairvaux Abbey, the Champagne house includes some magnificent 12th Century vaulted cellars.
