Gemtree Vineyards is owned and run by third generation grape growers; the Buttery Family. The family is dedicated to producing iconic wines of the highest quality from their McLaren Vale vineyards which since 2008 have been farmed biodynamically and are 'in conversion' certified organic. They believe in minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process which results in wines which are powerful, concentrated and express the true characteristics of each variety and the region. The winemaker, Mike Brown has worked with Chester Osborn at dâ€™Arenberg as well as stints in the South of France. The Bloodstone is 100% Shiraz sourced from a combination of Gemtreeâ€™s oldest vineyard on Tatachilla Road and their home block. Itâ€™s open fermented for 10 days then gently pressed into French oak for 14 months maturation and aging and is vegan. On the nose it offers violets, spicy red currants, plums and raspberry jam. The palate is dominated by plush, intense red fruits with subtle amounts of liquorice and chocolate with soft velvety tannins.
