The Oddbins Take

Let the youfs have the sweets; we’ve got something much better, mwa ha ha. With rich, melted dark chocolate that coats your palate like a velvet blanket, an explosion of dark damson and sun-drenched berries, warm spice and savoury toasty goodness, this wine will become your new guilty pleasure. We trust we have your mouth watering, so just keep lobbing sweets towards the door, turn up the heating and enjoy this belter from the comfort of your sofa.

Gemtree Vineyards is owned and run by third generation grape growers; the Buttery Family. The family is dedicated to producing iconic wines of the highest quality from their McLaren Vale vineyards which since 2008 have been farmed biodynamically and are 'in conversion' certified organic. They believe in minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process which results in wines which are powerful, concentrated and express the true characteristics of each variety and the region. The winemaker, Mike Brown has worked with Chester Osborn at d’Arenberg as well as stints in the South of France. The Bloodstone is 100% Shiraz sourced from a combination of Gemtree’s oldest vineyard on Tatachilla Road and their home block. It’s open fermented for 10 days then gently pressed into French oak for 14 months maturation and aging and is vegan. On the nose it offers violets, spicy red currants, plums and raspberry jam. The palate is dominated by plush, intense red fruits with subtle amounts of liquorice and chocolate with soft velvety tannins.

The air is crisp, the leaves are turning and a mysterious ambience seems to fill the air. Whether you’re seeking refuge from the shambolically-dressed hobgoblins and witches lurking at your door, venturing out to a gathering, or looking for a little vinous warmth to hug around the bonfire, this case will set you up good and proper. Just make sure you’ve a pumpkin in the window and a steak on the table (and a stake around your neck…)
