The Oddbins Take

As well as being thoroughly winsome and peachy, Domaine Guerrin’s Pouilly-Fuissé also serves as a history lesson in a glass. The vines of the Guerrin vineyards are grown on land that dates back to the Mesozoic period and we can't half tell. It is packed with the chalky, cool minerality from its pre-historic roots, but you don't have to be a history buff to appreciate its elegance and beautifully balanced flavours. It is a wonderfully textured white Burgundy with notes of hazelnuts and white peach, which will age gracefully. Essentially, don’t listen to the face cream adverts; embrace the signs of age with open arms.

Richard Hemming in The Purple Pages, 20/11/15: "Reductive, smoky and delicious, with superb tropical citrus fruit on the palate. Spicy, chalky, fragrant. Super – could easily compete with the Côte d’Or, and is GV in that context."

Damian Barr in The Sunday Times, 26/12/15: “So often wines sold as peachy turn out to be anything but but here, at last, is a real peach...There is also the suggestion of toasted hazelnuts.”

The Guerrin vineyards are located in the heart of Vergisson in Southern Burgundy between the rock of Solutré and the rock of Vergisson. These two limestone rocks date back to the Mesozoic period in Pre-historic times.

The Vineyard was founded in 1984 by Maurice Guerrin and consisted of only 3 hectares. Now the vineyard boasts 14 hectares but still up-holds tradition values and methods of production.

The vines are harvested by hand and the work on the vineyard is done to respect the family traditions. Each plot in the vineyard is specially chosen to make the most of the climate and the terroir. It is important to the winemaker that each wine has a distinctive identity which reflects the terroir. No chemical herbicides are used on the vines.

There is little intervention during the vinification process in order to maintain the character of the terroir. Guerrin Pouilly Fuissé 'Les Crays' is matured for 11 months in oak barrels.

The wine has an individual minerality with refreshing acidity and citrus fruit aromas. It has a milky weight in the mouth with notes of hazelnuts and white peach. The aromas will become even more concentrated with aging. This Pouilly Fuissé is a perfect accompaniment to white fish, poultry and mild, salty goats cheese.
