The Oddbins Take

It’s no coincidence that ‘Heidsieck’ sounds a lot like ‘Hide and Seek’. Because this little ripper has made a stealthy, almost hidden, increase in popularity. It’s not as internationally well-recognised as some Champagnes but it definitely, has a strong presence. And, when you do seek it out, you know why: toasty and buttery, bold and assertive, yet balanced, citrusy and complex, this Pinot Noir-driven fizz is one worth hunting down. OK, maybe it is a coincidence…

Heidsieck Monopole is based in Reims, France which was launched by Florens-Louis Heidsieck in 1785. It is widely known as one of the original Champagne Houses. The house has shipped internationally since it was founded and in particular to Germany and Russia. In the current age Heidsieck is a consistent multi-award winning Champagne House with a magnificent historical heritage, producing moern pinot noir driven wines of extraordinary quality.

The Blue Top is a Pinot Noir-driven Champagne, with the approximate blend being 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier with around 35% of reserve wines making up the final Cuvée .

The grapes are sourced from circa 70 different Cru across the Champagne region and the Champagne is aged for around three years before disgorgement, release and shipment.

To the eye it is crystal clean and clear, very pale straw yellow with emerald reflections while its nose is powerful and generous, with woody and spicy notes and is characterised by great aromatic richness with a blend of toasted, buttery and vinous aromas. On the palate it is a bold and assertive, yet balanced and not overpowering Champagne, with vivacious citrus fruits, hints of red fruits and creamy toasty notes followed by a long complex, clean finish.
