The Oddbins Take

This wine has a USP and it executes it brilliantly. What is it? It is the charming freshness and vibrancy of youth. With this Joven (young) wine, vintner Óscar Aragón has captured the reviving and heady violet, strawberry and mineral flavours of the Tempranillo grape and not given it any age, bar six months in the bottle before release. For those in pursuit of fresher, fruitier Spanish reds, you can call off the search…

Tom Cannavan's wine of the week, as featured on 6th October 2013:
The Oxford Companion to Wine calls Cillar de Silos a “leading challenger” to the title of maker of the very finest wines of Ribera del Duero. Grandfather Amalio Aragón founded Cillar de Silos with his sons Jesús, Roberto and Óscar. Now the next generation runs the winery. Roberto Aragón is the General Manager, responsible for the business side of the company. Younger brother Óscar Aragón trained as a winemaker, and is now the Head Winemaker and Viticulturist of Cillar de Silos. Their sister Amelia Aragón travels around the world as the Export Manager whilst simultaneously studying for the Master of Wine degree.
