The Oddbins Take

Three. It’s a magic number. Think of all the brilliant three-related phenomena – you’ve got The Corrs (if you don’t count the brother), you’ve got the Holy Trinity, you’ve got…triangles. But you also have ‘La Sirene’. The ‘third’ wine of the prestigious Chateau Giscours, La Sirene is a shy little thing. But, like a supportive sibling, or an encouraging drama teacher, we are here to say ‘step into the light! Hide no more under a bushel, La Sirene!’ It’s time has come and, with a fruit-forward, assertive style, it is rocking it.

With roots as a Bordeaux vineyard all the way back to 1552, Chateau Giscours has a formidable history. In 1845, the then-owner, Count de Pescatore, put winemaker Pierre Skawinski in charge of the vineyard, who turned out to be one of the most respected agriculturalists in Bordeaux. Amongst other achievements, he invented a type of plough, led the fight against mildew, earned Giscours the rank of Third Growth in the 1855 Classification. He managed the estate for 50 years.
