The Oddbins Take

Depending on who you are and where you come from, you might say ‘Grenache’, ‘Garnacha’ or even ‘Garnatxa’ if you’re a native Catalan. But whatever you call it – let’s refer to it as ‘G’ here, for neutrality’s sake – it is a grape that, when handled well, can produce delicate, floral, mineral wines with a hint of piquancy. And that is exactly what winemaker Nuria Altes has done here. Flavours of melon, spring flowers and mild aromatics abound in this subtle, poised ‘G’.

Founded in 1961, Celler Batea is one of the largest producers in Terra Alta. The winery selects grapes from over 1500 hectares of vines, coming from the region's varied microclimates, all of which contribute different characteristics. Celler Batea has invested heavily in recent years, with a move to modernise the facilities, as can be seen in the new vinification areas, storage room and state-of-the art grape reception equipment.
