The Oddbins Take

The year is 1999, the millennium looms and the end is seemingly nigh. Screws have become loose and floral aromas invade the airwaves. Meanwhile, an intense citrus explosion reigns down upon you and exhilarates the senses just as the final lingering herbs are scattered like some kind of electrical storm. What? End of the world? Oh no, just the zesty culmination of a sip of this Verdejo. In fact, the end is nigh (on perfect).

Legaris is a relatively new winery, constructed in 1999 and releasing its first vintage in spring 2003. They are one of the youngest wineries in Spain and have access to the latest winemaking technology.

Meticulous vineyard management, skilful barrel selection and minimal intervention in winemaking all contribute to the wines’ exceptional character.

The trellised vines are mechanically harvested by night, followed by the goblet vines, which are harvested by hand during the day. The grapes are then received in the hopper, de-stemmed and lightly crushed; the skins macerated in the press for two to four hours before pressing. It then experiences cold stabilisation and filtering to ensure optimum stability and presentation.

The Verdejo is intense on the nose, with a floral bouquet and notes of white fruit intermingled with subtle herbal hints. It has plenty of body and a long, lingering finish. Perfect with seafood, salads and fish.
