The Oddbins Take

Hidden deep in the normally peaceful Yarra Valley, maverick winemakers at Yering Station have been secretly building what the military are calling WMFs (Weapons of Mass Flavour). One army official said that these devices, which have been smuggled into the country by rogue wine merchant Oddbins, “look exactly like Molotov cocktails without the flaming rags” and that “just one can cause flavour levels in an average UK home to rise to an alarming level”. Yering Station has ironically called one of their most powerful weapons the “Little Yering Chardonnay”.

Yering Station is a multi-award-winning winery from Yarra Valley. This wine partly fermented in French oak and spends a further 9 months ageing in French oak. No malolactic fermentation takes place, hence the crisp acidity, all that creaminess comes from the fruit and the 2-5 year old barrels. On the nose lemons and nectarines are spiced with ginger and chopped toasted nuts and a splash of cream. On the medium weight palate more citrus, orchard and tropical fruits mingle with perfectly balanced oak making this soft, plump and fruity with a kick in the tail. As a food match we recommend rolling a crumbly goats’ chees in chopped toasted nuts and sesame seeds, grilling it and serving it with a pineapple and peach salsa.
