The Oddbins Take

Veltlinerous. Yes, of course it's a real word, honest, and it applies perfectly to this wine. Our office dictionary defines it as "1. Of Gruner Veltliner, classically-styled yet brazenly delicious, with soft and mellow fruit characters on a base of ripe apples, seasoned with a hint of white pepper. 2. Weingut Loimer's estate covers seven different soil types, with a cool climate and southerly aspect offering ample scope for the production of complex, high quality wines. Three quarters of its output comes from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, the only two varietals permitted by Kamptal DAC regulations, but the rest embraces a diversity beyond DAC rules, with some ten further grapes in the cellar and in the product range. In the vineyard too a great diversity of flora and fauna is encouraged.
