The Oddbins Take

The Cheshire market town of Macclesfield is famous for silk, Hovis, John Mayall and for having streets lined with treacle. So we were a tad confused when we were told that it has a unique microclimate and produces graceful wines. But the Saturno brothers were actually talking about Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills, Australia. It’s so refreshing to find a dry white that has punchy flavours but doesn’t floor you with the alcohol. This is no cliché when we say that the Longview Red Bucket White is bottled summer (Australian not Maxonian).

The Longview "Red Bucket" Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is a part of the legend of Longview, one of the Adelaide Hills’ most respected producers. When the Saturno family purchased Longview in 2001 they found themselves in the thick of vintage with one considerable problem – nothing in which to store the fruit. Nothing, that is, except some old buckets left over from the property’s dairy days. They just happened to be red and the rest is history.
