The Oddbins Take

According to his father, Andrew Mason was a tearaway. But that was to misunderstand him. Like most complex characters, he had many sides. On the one hand he was determined to make untrammelled varietal wine. On the other, he delighted in the concert of flavours, the jazz that blending could bring about.

Having mastered the art of restraint with his Yardstick range, Andrew wanted to let loose. A smile replaced his concentrated frown, and he went into the vineyards singing, picking a mélange of French white grapes with the pizzaz of a band leader cueing in musicians. You'll be helpless against the result! Chalky bass notes, trills of lychee, honeysuckle and papaya... Anyone fancy a dance?

The Marvelous Wines range started as a one-off project for Yardstick winemaker Adam Mason in 2009. His aim was to create a bistro-style wine for his local restaurant, which has since culminated in the creation of this range of blends packed full of South African energy.

Marvelous Yellow is a vibrant golden yellow in colour with a light sea-spray aroma and notes of litchi, lime and subtle honeysuckle. The wine has a mineral, savoury palate with flavours of Papatya, custard apple and blood orange that are balanced by a drop of chalky acidity on the long finish.
