The Oddbins Take

Like when you walk into the garden after a long winter to discover lil' daffodils boldly bursting forth in search of sun and warmth and other heart-gladdening flora, Oveja Negra is a pleasant surprise.

A frankly weird blend of Sauvignon Blanc and the plump yet herbaceous red grape, Carmenére, it has an intensely, marvellously refreshing grapefruit-y core, with subtle mineral characteristics and a herbal touch from the Carmenére. A wine to put a spring in your step and a smile on your face.

Authentic, sustainable and harmonious are the three words that sum up the philosophy of Via Wines, which has estates across Chile’s diverse valleys of Maule, Curicó, Colchagua and Casablanca.

A team of young professional viticulturists and winemakers control the process from grape growing to winemaking. Each vintage, they select the finest fruit with a rich variety of aromas that reflect the diversity of origin. Careful and sensitive handling of the vines and grapes is embedded in Via’s culture, with the aim of producing elegant, complex wines. The Reserva range showcases the spirit of a black sheep; willing to be different and innovative. The wines are rich and fruit-driven blends with flavour intensity and concentration.

Made with 84% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Carmenére, this is a unique, fresh and aromatic wine with citrus notes such as grapefruit, with a hint of tropical fruit, subtle mineral characteristics and a herbal touch from the Carmenére.

Light green in colour, with vegetal notes that appear first on the nose, this wine has excellent aromatic intensity and offers spices and herbs over a strongly grapefruit-y backdrop. The palate starts smoothly and builds to show tremendous, well-integrated acidity. Fresh and richly textured, it delivers on its aroma and comes to a vibrant and lively finish.
