The Oddbins Take

To be born into a well-regarded winemaking family might seem a boon, but for youngest son Rafa it was a double-edged sword. Yes, he inherited a passion to make outstanding Rioja; but he also wanted to assert his individuality. And, as always, that caused ructions. Family opinion was split.

Rafael wanted to fashion a Blanco. A wine of such elemental elegance it would sit shoulder to shoulder with the family's reds. A white capturing the character of the region. Marrying the scrubland scents of Holm oak, thyme and rosemary with flavours of white peach and pear. A modern wine, but with deference to tradition. One taste, and the family gave their assent. You can decide for yourself/

D José Palacios Remondo founded the family winery, Bodgeas Palacios Remondo, in 1945. Based in Alfaro, Rioja Baja, it is now run by four of his nine children; Antonio, Chelo (Consuelo), Álvaro and Rafa (Rafael). This white 'Placet' Rioja was created by Rafa, the youngest of José's children.

This is a complex white wine with expressive aromatics of tropical fruits, white peaches and pears. The palate offers fresh and fruity flavours and a pleasing texture from the time spent maturing in oak.
