The Oddbins Take

It is a lot to claim that one wine has the unmistakable character of Chile’s Maipo valley. That’s some pretty big talk. But we think that Viña Pérez Cruz can justify it with this ‘Cot’ or Malbec as it’s known over here. Sourced from a blissfully-located vineyard that captures the warm afternoon sun rays, the cool mountainous breeze blowing down off the Andes, this black-fruited behemoth captures the essence of this unspoilt land. These people have bags of confidence in their wine, it’s true, and rightly placed it is too.

Viña Pérez Cruz is a 100% estate-bottled red wine producer in Maipo Valley, Chile, focusing in quality and producing only wines of a ‘Reserva’ quality and above. Viña Perez Cruz have low yields, friendly wine growing practices and state of the art technology. Their wines show the unique quality of the variety and the unmistakable character typical of the Maipo Alto valley.

Winemaker German Lyon studied at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specialising in fruit culture and oenology. He worked as a winemaker in the Languedoc, before joining Pérez Cruz in 2001 to help establish the oenological area. He is responsible for the vine selection and vinification.

This Cot is well-structured yet approachably soft, with bright red fruit and a sprinkling of black pepper and warm spice.
