The Oddbins Take

The Queen of Sheba is a mysterious and powerful legend who's life has been an intrigue to people for millenia. Just like the Queen herself, this sparkling Shiraz will certainly get tongues wagging, it is mystifyingly dark and richly laden with exotic red fruit aromas. Its captivating bead of lively bubbles make it just the thing to bring people together for royal ceremonies, or any other celebration really. An enchantingly different fizz fit for a Queen.

Founded in 1979, Peter Lehmann wines was established to support the independent grape growers of the Barossa. Vines were first planted in the Barossa in the 1840s, due to its range of microclimates and soil types, the wines that are created in this region can vary wonderfully.

Part of Peter's original team was Andrew "Wig" Wigan. Wig studied wine making at Roseworthy wine university and went on to win numerous awards including the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy and Winemaker of the Year at the IWSC in 2003 and 2006.

Sparkling Shiraz, or Sparkling 'Burgundy' as it was known, was first developed in the late 1800s in South Australia. Named after the Queen of Sheba, this sparkling Shiraz is made from Barossa Shiraz grapes which are fermented on their skins for seven to ten days, pressed and then clarified. The wine is then matured for 12 months in French oak hogsheads. The wine rests on its lees for two years after undergoing bottle-fermentation.

A very special fizz that is the perfect celebration drink, it is a deep violet-red in colour. On the nose this Shiraz offers ripe black cherries and stone fruits and on the palate it has a fine mousse with unusual, rich, exotic fruits like figs. It is a revelation with Turkey and game birds.
