A Picada is both the name of a traditional Argentine platter of meat, cheeses and pickled vegetables, but it is also the name of a dusty road that runs through the mountains of Patagonia. Perhaps a Picada was the only meal that was suitable to eat whilst walking along kicking up dust in the mountains. Well, anyway, with a bit of luck you won’t be washing a mouth full of dust down while enjoying this approachable Malbec, and will be able to enjoy its soft and fine tannins with a tasty Picada from in the comfort of your own home.

One of the four pioneer wineries to set foot in the region of Chanar, in Patagonia, they first planted vineyards in 2000, the region having been chosen for its unique weather conditions and availability of water for irrigation. From the very beginning, the vines showed tremendous potential for premium quality wines. After more than a decade, the yields remain low and giving juicy concentrated wines.

Winemaker Sergio Pomar belongs to the new generation of winemakers who is transforming the wine industry in Argentina into one that produces the brilliantly diverse styles that can be found today. He studied oenology in Mendoza in the San Juan Agustin Maza University and has been involved with NQN winery since the beginning of the project, when he was still studying.

Picada 15 owes its name to one of the ancient roads of dust and stone that cross the arid landscapes of Patagonia, and which winds through their vineyard in San Patricio del Chañar.

Ruby red in colour with intense purple tints, Picada 15 has aromas of red berries, plums and morello cherries, with a subtle hint of violet and vanilla imparted by brief oak ageing. The tannins are soft and the flavours are round, elegant and well-balanced.
