The Oddbins Take

Interesting Fact Number 1: Did you know that historically Pinot Blanc was used in both Burgundy and Champagne and still can be used in both today, although it rarely is? We reckon those big cry-babies just couldn’t make anything as good as this Alsace Pinot Blanc. Interesting Fact Number 2: Pinot Blanc is a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir. Although we like to imagine that this means the grapes have little webbed toes, hunchbacks or pips on the outside, really it just means that they come out white!

Rose Murray-Brown in The Scotsman, 19/9/15: "Very popular with tasters. Citric, melon aromas, very well balanced fruit, a gentle backbone of natural acidity and a good length. This really ticks all the boxes for a youthful vibrant Alsace Pinot Blanc. Cave Vinicole de Hunawihr’s winemaker Nicolas Garde has selected better riper fruit for this cuvee. Well done Oddbins. STAR VALUE BUY"
This small co-operative, founded in 1954, has 110 members and 200 hectares of vineyard in the Haut-Rhin, 9km from Colmar. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by La Revue du Vin de France in 2005. Winemaker Nicolas Garde started at the winery in 2004, and his influence is now being seen in the way the wines are improving with each vintage. The vineyards are planted with 24% Riesling, 21% Pinot Blanc, 18% Gewurztraminer, 14% Pinot Gris and 14% Pinot Noir.
