The Oddbins Take

Primitivo, the grape used in this wine, translates from the Italian as 'primitive', but rather than being a club-waving, monosyllabic, chest-beating creature, this is a most refined being. Whilst the Primitivos of Southern Italy are known for packing quite a punch (and this is certainly packed full of cherry and raspberry fruit) the overtones of mocha and rosemary here give this red serious refinement. Would make an admirable companion to frankly any soirée and any company - however refined - or primitive.

South of Brindisi you’ll find the Salento peninsula extending towards Albania and Greece, it’s Italy's easternmost point. The finest wines are produced on calcareous soils. Though the climate is hot, it is cooled by breezes coming off the Adriatic and Ionian seas. Cantina Terre di Sava was established in 2008 by a group of wine lovers who joined forces to rescue a treasured winery from financial difficulties. The investors knew the heritage and potential of this unique land and were able to capitalise on the best aspects of the terroir to produce wonderful wines.
