This is the wine that first put d'Arenberg on the vinous map, an Australian classic that has been the envy of the wine producers everywhere for the last 40 years.

Tasting Notes : Spicy cinnamon and plum laced with mulberry and prune aromas. Rich and smooth on the palate.

Producer : d'Arenberg

Method of Production : D'Arry's Original is made from low yielding Shiraz and Grenache vineyards planted in the 19th Century. The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed, gently crushed, then transferred into small open vats for fermentation. Pressing took place in old fashioned basket presses which extract clean juice and soft tannins. The wine was pumped into American and French oak barriques (225ltr barrels) where it matured for 12 months before bottling.

One of my great favourites...

...and for good reason too. This was my staff "wine of the month" and I feel justified for making it so. This is one of the wines that kickstarted and thus set the standard for the Aussie viticultural tradition. If someone claims to dislike Australian reds, pour them a glass of this (1996, 2001 or 2004 preferred), and see how well it goes down...you can't possibly frown with those perfectly balanced tannins playing on your tongue.

Fantastic fruity wine tasted in the best place of all, the cellar door at d'Arenberg. Buy all their range it's great!

A great introduction to the d'Arenberg world. d'Arrys Original is perhaps more approachable than its' big brothers Footbolt, Ironstone Pressings et al. Lovely up front fruit and warmly rounded tanins make this a stylish crowd pleaser.

2001 I'm sure is good but I received the 2002 which is average at best.
