Laphroaig 'Quarter Cask'

Tasting Notes : The additional oak influence from the quarter casks had created a soft sweetness and velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness, so unique to Laphroaig, comes bursting through. The finish is long and alternates between the wood sweetness and the classic phenolic 'peat reek' like the waves on our shore.

Method of Production : In the early days of the 19th century whisky would be placed into small 'quarter casks' and await collection and transportation by pack horse. Inevitably, maturation would take place in these tiny barrels. Laphroaig has decided to return to its roots and reproduce these conditions, and matured this new release in smaller barrels. The smaller the cask used, the stronger the oak influence will be, due to the hugely increased oak surface contact compared, to the small amount of whisky they contain. Therefore this special whisky had to be watched like a hawk as it is actually younger than Laphroaig's standard expression. To keep with the old ways, it was not chill filtered.
