If there is one Non-Vintage Brut champagne that is universally appreciated, it is surely Lanson Black Label, a great classic that embodies the ideas and the character of a great House.

Tasting Notes : Hints of spring flowers with just a touch of toast and honey. This is followed by strong fruit and balancing citrus flavours.

Producer : Lanson

Method of Production : Hand-picked grapes were crushed as whole bunches to produce a clean juice that fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After a careful blending of wines from a large number of different vintages and vineyards, the 'Champagne' was bottled with yeast and sugar to undergo a second fermentation which creates the sparkle. Lanson are of the few producers to prevent malolactic fermentation, keeping their wines crisp and refreshing.

Food Choice

Well suited to drinking as an aperitif or with canapes and light snacks.

50% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay & 15% Pinot Meunier.

Having noticed in the detail that this had a gold in the IWC last year, but a bronze this year I would say that was spot on. I bought a case and was disappointed in this year's quality, last year was a revelation.

Great Stuff, often attainable at under £20 so edges into the 4* bracket for taste and overall value. I keep hearing that this improves if you leave it to mature in the bottle for a couple of years or so - never managed to resist it for that long though!!

Lovely, light and goes down well with everyone who's tried it. But at £20 a bottle, who are these people calling it good as "everyday" fizz. Wish I could drink this everyday!
