An ancient digestif made by an order of monks founded in 1084 near Grenoble and made with herbs to give a strong elixir.

Tasting Notes : Sweet, very strong and very warming with aromas and flavours of herbs, spices and angelica.

Producer : Chartreuse Diffusion SA

Method of Production : Produced at a distillery in Voiron, a couple of miles from the Carthusian monastry at Grande Chartreuse. It is a very strong Elixir Vegetale made with over 130 herbs and spices, the same recipe has been used since 1605 and is secret. The blended spirit is smoothed by being matured in large (10,000ltr) old, Hungarian and Russian oak casks.

Food Choice

Try a couple of drops with a sugar lump or drink in hot chocolate as a 'Green Chaud'.
