Masi 'Corbec' 2003
Product Code:
From La Arboleda vineyard in the Tunpugnato Valley, Masi's Argentine outpost, comes this 'amarone'. Using traditional Veronese appassimento technique and Masi's skill with this style of wine, this red has been made from a blend of Corvina (a nod to its north Italian roots) and Malbec (giving an undeniable Argentine influence). A great wine in its own right but also a must try for Italian Amarone lovers too.
Tasting Notes : The wine has a very deep red colour with light garnet reflections on the rim. The intense perfume of ripe red fruits and jam is lifted by an elegant note of spicy anise. The drying process enriches the wine with prunes and date aromas. On the palate there is a great balance between body weight and acidity plus smooth and elegant tannins.
Producer : Masi
Method of Production : Corbec is made with the appassimento method. The two grape varieties were harvested and vinified separately. The selected grape bunches were laid on wooden trays for 22 days. The grapes lost 25% of their weight and gained in concentration of sugars and flavours. They were gently pressed and the juice was fermented at 18 to 20°C for 20 days in stainless steel tanks. After racking, the wine completed its fermentation in French oak barriques and was aged on its lees for 18 months. The separate varieties were then assembled and the resulting wine was transported to Italy where it was bottled.
