d'Arenberg 'The Ironstone Pressings' Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre

d'Arenberg's love affair with Grenache reaches its pinnacle with The Ironstone Pressings. The original block planted in 1920, on the lower side of the winery, has a plentiful amount of ironstone throughout the soil structures, which enhances the body and tannin structure of the wine.
Tasting Notes : The nose is dominated by aromas of red berries, spice, sour and roasted cherries, plum and cut flower stems. On the palate the Grenache delivers spices, earth and an amazing sweetness wrapped in gritty and vibrant tannins. The Shiraz adds slight spicy red mulberry and potpourri fruit characters The Mourvèdre then adds notes of ripe salami, iodine, lavender flavours.

Method of Production : The grapes were harvested late in the season from vines planted in the rusty-red soils typical of this part of McLaren Vale. After a gentle crushing, each variety was vinified separately in traditional open top fermenters. The wine was racked into American and French oak barriques, predominantly new, to complete fermentation and mature for on average 21 months, before it was ready for blending and bottling.

This wine is often over looked in favour of Dead Arm. A real shame as Ironstone Pressings is an absolute star in its own right.
