Blind River Sauvignon Blanc

The grapes are grown on the Feickert's Redwood Pass vineyard in the Awatere Valley which benefits from clay-based gravel soils. The result is not your average Marlborough Sauvignon, with a noticable depth of flavour and great persistance.

Tasting Notes : This wine has an intense bouquet of passionfruit and guava with undertones of citrus and melon. A strong mineral character shows through which is very typical of fruit from this vineyard. The palate is rich, with excellent weight the barrel ferment portion adding complexity and viscosity. The cool ferment delivers flavours of citrus and tropical fruit, with a mineral backbone, maintaining the elegance that has come to be expected from Blind River.

Producer : Blind River

Method of Production : After careful destemming and pressing, 7.5% of the juice was transferred toaged French Oak barriques for barrel fermentation. The remaining juice wasfermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures with a selected yeast strain to maintain freshness and fruit character. The wine was held on lees after fermentation for 3 months before blending and bottling. Traditionally fined using milk products.

Not As Good As The Tupari!

My partner has been raving on about the 2007 vintage of blind river and speaking about how wonderful it is, unfortunately after opening a bottle of the 2008 we have to admit that the Tupari (at £1 more) is FAR superior with its creamy yet elegant and restrained fruit! I have to commend oddbins on trying new styles of wine, and so far the new buyers are doing VERY well, lets see if Tupari is the new Blind River?!

Big up the BF

I am not a great fan of oaked aromatic varietals, Sauvignon in particular. This wine has seen some barrel fermentation which adds an extra dimension of creaminess on the palate that is utterly sublime. A real antidote to the extreme grassiness we often see from these Isles. Go on Oddbins!! This is the most elegant Sauvignon I've have tried in years.

Not since drinking a particular Sauvignon Blanc in 1995 have I come across something as classy as Blind River's 2003 Sauvignon Blanc.

I recently sampled the 2004 vintage and found it to be extremely pleasant on the palate. This wine can be enjoyed with lunch or stand alone anytime one wants a striking easy to drink wine with fruity taste.
