Walter Finlayson risked becoming a laughing stock when he planted Pinot Noir in his warm climate Paarl vineyards. This is a magnificent vindication of that decision which proves once and for all that Pinot can enjoy a day out in the sun.

Tasting Notes : The nose is spicy with wild bramble fruit, mulberry and chocolate undertones. The palate ia packed with soft berry fruits such as strawberry & raspberry, there is an elegant balance between wood and fruit.

Method of Production : The fruit was sourced predominantly from Glen Carlou's own estate using superior Dijon Pinot Noir clones planted on north-facing, gravel slopes. Following a manual harvest, the grapes were destemmed, lightly crushed and cold macerated for two days. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks using cultured yeast for two weekss. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked into a combination of barriques and larger French oak barrels (25% of which were new and the rest second fill) for 11 months.

Wow...

All the others in the branch raved about this, and now I see why...reeking of full-blown dark chocolate and vanilla on the nose, yet somehow none on the taste; it has strong flavours of raspberry, bitter cherry and wild strawberry, all rounded off with a smoothness uncharacteristic of SA wines. Really lovely with dark game meats.

Full-on complex red

This is amazing wine - really interesting and complex. Makes average French wine look simply, well average! Get some in while you can!

An amazing Pinot Noir. Perfectly balanced and delicate whilst managing to contain a powerful 14.5% alcohol. A bargain Pinot at £10.

A fantastic example of Pinot Noir, soft and fruity with classic rasberry aromas. One of the best Pinot Noir's I have tried in this price bracket
