Domaine de l'Engarran Rouge

The Engarran estate has two levels of vin de pays wines, and this is the more serious red, made from fruit on vines that were replanted at the beginning of the 1990s. What is unusual about this blend is the predominance of Cabernet Franc, which is a far from commonplace variety is the south of France. Having had some oak ageing, this is a deep and expressive wine that has plenty of blacks fruits on one had, and intriguing savoury spices on the other.
Tasting Notes : A highly expressive nose shows aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, olive paste and sweet pepper. The palate is full and velvety with dark berried flavours shot through with vanilla.

Method of Production : Each variety and parcel was vinified separately. Once picked the grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented in temperature-controlled vats (stainless steel and concrete) for a period of two to three weeks. Malolactic conversion was encouraged, and after the wines were racked from their lees they were aged for 12 months; half in American oak barrels and half in tank. The wine was gently filtered before bottling.
