This red is made from Juan Garcia, a distinctive variety native to the Zamora province where it is the main grape grown. It is made under the Viño de Calidad de Arribes appellation (a VCPRD, rather than a full DO) that is located on the banks of the Duero River where it forms the border with Portugal. It is the cooling effect of the river on the grapes that gives the wine fresh aromatics on top of the layers of summer fruit flavours.
Tasting Notes : This unique and indigenous grape variety has an elegant nose of red fruits, blackberry, redcurrant and raspberry; full-bodied and soft on the palate with a well-balanced and rounded finish.
Producer : Bodegas Ribera de Pelazas
Method of Production : The estate grown grapes were handpicked, destemmed then crushed. Still in contact with its skins, the juice was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for eight to ten days. The wine went through a further period of post-fermentation maceration (total time in contact with skins was 28 days) before being pressed to a combination of two year old American and French oak barrels for malolactic conversion and 12 months ageing. The wine was fined with egg white before being bottled.
