A unique style of superb fortified sweet wine. Rutherglen is famous for making lusciously sweet but perfectly balanced dessert wines. Campbells are one of 8 wineries dedicated to flying the flag for this Victorian style.

Tasting Notes : Rich, and luscious with molasses, raisins and black toffee aromas. The palate is thick and intense with a touch of spice on the long, warming finish.

Method of Production : The Muscat grapes were harvested late in the season with massive levels of sugar, acidity and flavour. Fortification with brandy halted a brief fermentation, leaving an incredibly sweet wine (about 2 times sweeter than Sauternes). Fractional blending in a solera system of old oak casks repeatedly mixed fresh, fruity new wines with really complex, nutty older ones to produce a complex and consistent final blend.

Food Choice

Heavenly with plum pudding, as an after dinner drink with coffee, or as a dessert in its own right.

Sweet tooth

I personally found this dessert wine a bit too sweet, with a dominant taste of muscovado sugar. It is still quite an interesting drink.
