The Oddbins Take

Rasteau is a village in the southern Rhone, where either life is particularly hard, or they just like to have a good time. One way or another they like a wine with a bit of oomph. Best known for fortified wines, they also produce lush reds that need no fortification to scale the heady heights of 15% by volume.

A bit of a beast you might think, but not at all – or at least if it is, it’s a very civilized beast. Perhaps not exactly a wolf in sheep’s clothing, maybe more of a wolf in the natty threads of a well groomed and immaculately behaved pedigree wolf hound.

Chateau Goudray has been dedicated to the production of high quality wines since the 17th century. In 1900, the domaine was acquired by Marie and Hugues Meffre who rejuvenated the vineyard after the devastating effects of phylloxera. The domaine and vineyards have remained in the family to this day.
