Let's be honest, most gin distilleries have been in operation for an average of... yep, 17 minutes. Not old Gordon's, o no! Gordon's have been making gin since Oscar Wilde was in short smoking jackets. Could there be a better persona to represent Gordon's Pink Gin than dear Oscar? Dry, sharp as a whip and damn refreshing. Significantly, like Mr Wilde, it's stood the test of time; while most distilleries will disappear to the same place as M. E. Braddon (sorry Braddon but The Cloven Foot was just awful) Gordon's will carry on, filling glasses and bellowing the Importance of Being Ernest quotes. "I am sick to death of cleverness. Everybody is clever nowadays."

Have you ever read the works of Roald Dahl? Of course you have, it would border on child abuse if you'd been denied those books in your youth. Ironically, child abuse seems to feature quite heavily in the work of Dahl. Like in James and the Giant Peach; his aunts make him sleep on the floor in the attic all because his parents were killed by an escaped Rhinoceros. They got their comeuppance though, James and his human sized band of invertebrates crushed them both to death with the eponymous Giant Peach... God this book is macabre. Regardless, this Vodka is so smooth, fruity and refreshing you may well feel like you're circumnavigating the globe in a house-sized peach.

    H by Hine VSOP Cognac

    Now £40.00

    Was £45.00

    £40.00

Lots of fantastic things start with a H; like umm, H from Steps, that 'Tragedy' dance was more influential than Wilde, Tolstoy & Keats combined! However, his name is actually Ian Watkins, which is most confusing. If you do know what the H stands for in Ian Watkins please write to the 1990s and let them know, they're all terribly concerned. There is, however one H better than even the one in Steps; H by Hine. If we told you it was young, lively, graceful, harmonious and joyful you may well think we're still discussing Steps but the big difference is in Hine's longevity. While Hine can linger on the palate for decades you probably haven't thought about Steps since August of 1999... sorry Ian.

In awe of Pedro, Tom looked deep into his glossy bottle and said "I'm just a whisky, standing in front of a sherry, asking it to share its flavours."

The pair put their differences aside and went on to live a long and harmonious life together, gorging on all the figs, raisins, apricots and plums they could find. It's all rather sweet, really.
