The Oddbins Take

There's an admirable note of distinction to this fine red Santenay that's hard to pin down. While it's light and quite delicate for a Burgundy, it has a beguilingly pleasant, almost sweet-scented nutty oak character. The good folk at Nuiton-Beaunoy, who grace us regularly with their presence, are quick to point out that this is a clever combination of both Beaune terroir and some good old ageing-on-the-lees action.

The Nuiton-Beaunoy cave co-operative produces this wine from vines planted on the marly soils around Santenay in the Côte de Beaune. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel but for maturation and lees-ageing the wine is divided between French oak and stainless steel vats for 10 to 12 months prior to bottling.
