The Oddbins Take

Border-hopping Malbec from the other side of the peninsula in Chile. This is very South American anyway. Small wonder Chile too are turning their hand to this, the Argie-wonder grape; not that they need to prove much when it comes to winemaking. This Secret (or locally, Secreto) is Malbec very much as you picture it: Full and juicy, smooth and satisfying, and with the guaranteed trademark long, long length. Wine this good won't be much of a Secret for long.

Rose Murray-Brown in The Scotsman, 28/3/15: "I loved the funky label and spicy fruit of this Chilean malbec. You might think malbec performs best in Argentina, but this French grape also makes interesting wines across the Andes in the top Chilean wine region of Colchagua Valley. The blend is 85 per cent malbec, with 15 per cent of a secret grape added to help soften malbec’s austere structure."
Viu Manent was founded in 1935 by Catalan immigrant Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons Agustin and Miguel Viu Manent. In 1966 they fulfilled a long held ambition and bought the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco estate in the Colchagua Valley from where they had long been sourcing their wines.

In honour of that most ancient of exchanges, the secret, a wine that revels in the untold. Whilst 85% of this decadent drop is the uber popular and super delicious and rich Malbec grape, the rest of the cuvee is, well, a secret! Your guess is as good as ours...
