The Oddbins Take

Everything that Cave de Monterail – the tiny negociants who produce this wine – is geared towards offering outstanding value Côtes du Rhône. They have a very small, highly-skilled winemaking team who self-flagellate if their bosses catch them doing anything inefficiently.

Er, sorry, what? No, that’s not actually true.

But their attention to detail and outstanding skillzz have yielded a compact little spice-box of a wine that is liberally endowed with rich, black fruit and bright tannins. No self-flagellation was involved in the making of this wine.

A superb introduction to the wines of the southern Rhone, this Cotes du Rhone offers exceptional value for money.

Cave de Monterail is a small and quality-orientated negociant located in Chateauneuf du Pape. They were founded in 1977 and are owned by "Maison Picard". By working on very low margins and having an exceptional wine making team, Cave de Monterail aims to offer the best possible value for money.

The Grenache grapes are machine harvested and temperature-controlled fermentation takes place at a low temperature in stainless steel vats. Natural micro oxygenation to make the tannins soft and round.

This wine is crammed full of vibrant berry fruit flavours. Spicy and complex, with hints of black pepper this is a wonderfully versatile wine.
