The Oddbins Take

Taittinger is one of the very oldest of all the champagne houses, and one of the few now (back) under family control. The house style is crisp and elegant, with a creamy richness that's emphasised in the 2004 vintage with its 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and selective ageing. The 2004 is just coming into its own now - still young and fresh, with clean, bright fruit flavours balanced by the nutty, toasty notes coming through - and will continue to develop and mature for a good decade, and more.

Between you and us, this is our favourite gift. Partly because Taittinger, and especially vintage Taittinger, is unutterably wonderful. And partly because of the implicit suggestion of two celebrations - a fabulous one, and an utterly fabulous one. Maybe one now (say... wedding), and one in the future (say... wedding anniversary). Or maybe one now. And one tomorrow.
