The Nikka distillery was founded in Yoichi, Japan, 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, after his return from Scotland, where, at Glasgow University, he had become the first Japanese person ever to study the art of whisky making. A blend of the two Nikka single malts, Taketsuru combines the strong character of Yoichi with the elegance and precision of Miyagikyo. Released in 2014, this no-age statement Taketsuru bottling is a blend of malts aged 10 years on average in different types of oak casks. A high percentage of Miyagikyo malt gives a fresh fruity character, joined by mature aromas from an important sherry cask influence.
Nikka are one of the doyens of the whisky world in Japan and Taketsuru Pure Malt combines the strong masculinity of its Yoichi single malt with the feminine elegance of Miyagikyo. Alter Ego: the Japanese Seahorse; a stunning, rare and hermaphroditic creature that has huge depth, a deep, burnt gold ochre and an ability to attract interest from all four corners of the globe.
