The Oddbins Take

The Liberator is a negociant label and purely opportunistic. The project began in 2010 when, on one of his regular excursions to Cape Town, Rick was offered a few of parcels of wine that required a home. With no obvious brand to place them under, Rick created his own. The Liberator was born... The wines are sold by 'Episode' and all are finite parcels. Once they're gone, they're gone...

Rick is the alter ego of Master of Wine, Richard Kelley. Richard has over the past twenty years become highly respected on South African wine in the UK. During his time working in Cape between 1995 and 2002, Rick built a great rapport with the local wine scene, allowing him to access several wine cellars.

Each wine discovered by The Liberator has its own story; a tale of its untimely existence. Each bottle will have a testimony recounted, both in the bottle and on screen, as a unique and remoniscent Episode. Over the past two decades, Rick has been a regular panel taster for the South African Wine magazine, judge at the Old Mutual Trophy and a contributor to the award winning Platter's Wine Guide. During the day Rick is a Director for Dreyfus Ashby, a wine importing company.
