Tomatin Whisky Meets Sherry Oloroso

The Oddbins Take

Opposites attract, as they say, and in the case of Tomatin and Oloroso this couldn’t be more true. In a classic tale of Whisky meets Sherry, Tomatins life is changed for the better when it’s introduced to the elegant and gentle character of Oloroso.

Having lived a rough and rugged youth, Tomatin is influenced heavily by Oloroso’s age and wisdom, transforming it in to a silky-smooth dram with sweet aromas, slightly bitter flavours and a dry finish.

Located in Jerez, Spain, Bodegas Tradición was founded in 1998 by Mr. Joaquín Rivero. The origins of the Bodegas are based on the oldest sherry house known in the area, Bodega CZ, J. M. Rivero. With the business dating back to 1650, J. M. Rivero was, by appointment, supplier of the Royal Houses of Spain and Portugal.

Bodegas Tradición Jerez have joined forces with the multi-award winning Tomatin Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky to present this limited-edition whisky and sherry case. Casks that once held this outstanding Oloroso Sherry were sent to Tomatin Distiller in 2012, where they were filled with whisky that has been maturing since 2000 in Hogshead casks.

This whisky has drawn extraordinary influences from the sherry casks, showcasing a range of dried, exotic fruits with notes of cocoa and nuts. The silky smooth, slightly drying finish is synonymous with the silky texture of the full-bodied yet elegant Oloroso Sherry.

On the nose, the Oloroso whisky offers a range of fruitcake, boiled sweets, barley sugar, orange sherbet and creamy fudge aromas. This plethora of sweet smells are balanced with a slight hint of smoke whilst the palate expresses flavours of pinewood, bitter dark chocolate, coffee and orange marmalade.
