REGION

You may have noticed, if you’ve ever scrutinised a selection of Scotch Whisky, that they tend to be divided into Regions, 5 of them to be precise. Highlands, Lowlands, Speyside, Islay and Campbeltown, sorry Islands; you are an unrecognised sub-region so don’t appear in this list but by gum we’re rooting for your identification. Regional labelling can be rather useful to help choose your next dram, although there are oddballs coming out of every region, a good rule of thumb is; if you like peaty whiskies, go for a nice Islay or Campbeltown. Distilleries such as Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Springbank hail from here. If you prefer a smoother, nuttier style look no further than whiskies such as Glenfarclas and Glenkinchie that come from Speyside and the Lowlands respectively. Prefer a whisky more in the middle? Highlands the region for you, whiskies like Oban, balance peat with an easier drinking style. Simple, right? We knew the Scots were a sensible bunch.
