ARDBEG

Founded in 1815 by John McDougall (solid Scottish name that) Ardbeg have been a significant fixture of the Islay community for 200 years. Currently owned by Glenmorangie under the parent company of LVMH, their whisky is defined by heavy peating at Port Ellen maltings, giving Ardbeg its signature, intense smoke and peat aromas. In fact, Ardbeg have often claimed they are the peatiest Scotch whiskies on the market. Under Glenmorangie ownership, Ardbeg first realised their 10-year-old in 2000, this was joined in their core-range along with ‘Uigeadail’ and ‘Corryvreckan,’ both of which are much closer to cask strength and are renowned for their extreme intensity. Ardbeg is not a distillery for the faint hearted but then again what good Scot ever was, “they can take our lives but they will never take our freedom!”
