Bruichladdich

Bruichladdich is a bit like ET in that, wow, it was close to falling out of existence; it went all white, all the petals started falling off that flower and Elliot was super sad. Although, like all great movies, just when you think it’s all over, they’re snatched from the grips of death. Bruichladdich was saved in 2001 when a group of Islay locals and a London-based wine merchant bought the distillery for £6 million. They nursed ‘the old lady of Islay’ back to heath; largely investing in upgraded cooperage. Today, Bruichladdich are one of the most innovative distilleries in Scotland; be it their iconic bottle shape or prolific whiskies such as the Octomore; in a short 16 years Bruichladdich are back and stronger than ever before, Thank goodness for that!

The wild, Atlantic-facing coast of Islay was the inspiration behind this third release of Bruichladdich's Barley series. The grain was grown for Bruichladdich in the Minister's Field at Rockside Farm. A very slow distillation gently coaxed the delicate oils and flavour compounds from the barley and, coupled with the use of casks that specially selected to preserve those flavours, the result is a whisky of exceptional complexity and a sense of place. Honed, muscular and lithe, the maltiness of the barley is very much at the fore.
