Glengoyne

Glengoyne is an oddity in many ways, firstly, it’s the only distillery that is both a Highland and a Lowland whisky; the distillery is in the Highlands yet its warehouse, directly over the road, is in the Lowlands. They’re also, relatively, the new kids on the block; they first started bottling single malts in the early 1990s before that their whisky only went into blends. Glengoyne have grown in esteem since then, largely off the back of their whisky being sold as ‘the unpeated malt.’ Also, largely due to the appeal of the distillery as a tourist destination, Glengoyne currently get over 50,000 visitors a year.

Glengoyne is distilled slower than any other single malt Scotch whisky making it a soft, subtle and complex dram. Malts are air dried so you'll find no peat here, just a delicate balance of smooth barley, baked apples and oaky spice. In his Whisky Bible 2008 Jim Murray says "Seriously chewy and textbook bittersweet balance. Incredibly long and defined for such a light malt. A little beauty. 90 points"

Lemon zest, toffee apples and a scent of coconut. A relaxing paradise of flavours; the result of Scotland's slowest distillation.

Completely unpeated and dangerously quaffable, this displays soft, fruity notes, a light spiciness, gentle vanilla and a touch of marzipan. Alter Ego: Billy Connolly; indisputably a Big Yin and probably Glasgow's favourite son (but don't tell Auchentoshan that). It's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face and is in possession of a fruity side. Also, is there a slight note of banana boots there?
  3. Glengoyne 18 Year Old Whisky Highland

Glengoyne 18 Year Old - Highland Single Malt Whisky

    £80.50

    £80.50

The luxurious product of almost two decades in a generous proportion of first-fill sherry casks. The complexity of this is outstanding: red apple, ripe melon, banana, marmalade, chocolate, marzipan and a bowl of creamy porridge topped with nuts and brown sugar abound. Just let it unravel in your mouth...
